Hong Kong hosts 138 exhibitions in 2018

Hong Kong, 26th July: The Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) has released the results of its annual exhibition survey for 2018. A total of 138 exhibitions (with a minimum gross size of 2,000 m2 of larger) were held in 2018 in Hong Kong. 88 were classified as “trade” and “trade and consumer” exhibitions. The remaining 50 exhibitions were purely “consumer” exhibitions, which were not included in the survey results.

RELX’s exhibition revenues up 5%

London, 25th July: This week, London-listed RELX Group (formerly Reed Elsevier) also reported its results for the six months ended 30th June 2019. The group’s total revenues were £3.9 billion (US$4.9 billion), representing an underlying growth of 3%. Adjusted operating profits in the period were up 4% to £1.2 billion (US$1.6 billion).

PCEB launches new MICE campaign

Penang, 16th July: Recently, the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) launched new campaign, “Penang 2020: BE Unfiltered,” with the aim of enhancing appeal of Penang for business events. The new campaign consists of a new mobile app, a support programme for business events, a CSR initiative and an extended airline partnership.

TCEB launches new Chinese market initiative

Thailand, 8th July: Recently, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) launched a new initiative to strengthen Thai-Sino business ties.

The new initiative, “360 Degree Exhibition Success” features three key elements: 1) the “Bidding Fund Programme” helps organisers launch international exhibitions in Thailand by providing on-the-ground market support and access to local industries; 2) “Exhibiz in Market” gives national pavilion leaders priority access to exhibitions in Thailand; and 3) “ASEAN+6 Privilege” assists business missions in bringing trade visitors from ASEAN+6 countries to Thailand for business meetings during Thai exhibitions.

MCEC hosts 247 events in 2018/19

Melbourne, 11th July: The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), now celebrating its 10th anniversary, has posted some record results in the one year since the venue expansion at MCEC was completed.

MCEC, which open in July 2009, has hosted more than 7,000 events and welcomed millions of visitors to the venue. Since the new expansion was completed in July 2018, the venue has hosted 247 events including meetings, conferences and exhibitions.

15,600 visitors at ISPO Shanghai 2019

Shanghai, 7th July: Earlier this month, ISPO Shanghai, a leading event serving sports business professionals in China, concluded at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). ISPO Shanghai attracted 15,600 trade visitors – which represents an increase of 8% over last year.

Organised by Messe München, ISPO Shanghai ran from 5th to 7th July featuring about 550 brands from a range of sectors including running, outdoor, health & fitness, winter sports and water sports. In addition to the exhibition, exhibitors and visitors also participated in a matchmaking program to connect with both Chinese e-commerce providers and retail chains.
